Lunar New Year celebrations at a Los Angeles-area dance club dispersed when a gunman opened fire, killing ten people and injuring ten others.

Authorities say they are still searching for a motive behind the killings at the predominantly Asian community of Monterey Park.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna says police have identified the shooter as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran.

The man took his own life as police closed in on the van he used to flee the scene Saturday night.

Luna did not have the exact ages of the victims, but said those killed all appeared to be over the age of 50.

The deaths sent a wave of fear through Asian American communities in the wake of Lunar New Year celebrations.

It’s the deadliest attack since 21 people were killed last May at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
