Hamilton’s finest have been honoured at the annual Hamilton Police Awards.

Constable Mark Pitt-Payne was given the highest recognition, the Member of the Year award.

He was selected from among 12 candidates who had been given Member of the Month awards during 2014 for their acts of bravery, crime solving or pursuit of offenders.

In August, Payne was working at the reception desk at the east end station when a 45-year-old man came in with a knife and said he was going to kill himself.  Constable Pitt-Payne was able to convince the man to keep talking and eventually got him to put down the knife.

More than 500 people attended the event Monday night, including honourees, citizen award recipients, members of the police service, and volunteers.
