Hamilton Public Health is reporting a confirmed case of measles in the city, the first since the outbreak began in Toronto and Niagara. It’s now warning residents of some possible locations where they may have been exposed to the illness.
Officials say it’s an adult who may have a case of the measles, and although it’s thought the person contracted the disease while travelling, they’re saying there could have been exposures in some of the following Hamilton locations.
– Sobey’s and Shoppers Drug Mart at Meadowlands on Sunday, March the 8th
– Popeye’s Chicken on Fennell Avenue east on Monday, March the 9th.
– The person returned to the Shoppers location at Meadowlands on Tuesday, March the 10th, and then visited the Shopper’s Drug Mart on King West in Dundas on Wednesday, March 11th.
People who may have been in these locations are encouraged to contact Hamilton Public Health or the City of Hamilton website for more information, especially if they have never had their measles vaccination. The illness is highly contagious and symptoms tend to appear in the first two weeks.
