Two cases loom over Queen’s Park fall session

It wasn’t long before the first day of the Queen’s Park fall session narrowed in two trials currently underway. The Premier’s former deputy chief of staff Patricia Sorbara and Liberal fundraiser Gerry Lougheed, are accused of offering a former candidate a job if he stepped aside for the preferred candidate, Glenn Thibeault. Thibeault ended up winning the election and is now Minister of Energy.

“The shenanigans that went on in Sudbury, that’s what’s highly inappropriate. Demanding jobs in exchange for running is a pretty serious allegation & the Premier should take it seriously.” Andrea Horwath, Ontario NDP leader.

The Premier will testify in Sudbury court.

“I said I’d be open and transparent so I will waive my parliamentary privilege, I will appear as a witness on Sept. 13.”

CHCH will be in Sudbury for the Premier’s testimony on Wednesday.

While that case is in its second week, another began. Former Liberal staffers David Livingston and Laura Miller appeared in court. They’re charged with breach of trust and mischief over destroyed emails after gas plants were cancelled by Dalton McGuinty’s government before the 2011 election.
