2nd worker dies after April incident at Stelco’s Nanticoke plant

A second worker has succumbed to injuries sustained in an incident at Stelco Inc. Lake Erie in Nanticoke last April, according to the Ministry of Labour.

On April 25,  the Ministry says it was notified of an incident at the Nanticoke location of the Hamilton-based employer John Kenyon Limited.

That report outlined that two workers had received burns while working with materials on the job.

Officials say they were informed of the first employee’s passing on May 16. The victim would later be identified as 32-year-old Gabriel Cabral from Stoney Creek.

On Tuesday, more than six months after the incident, the ministry confirmed that they received notice of the second employee’s death last Friday.

The family of Sean MacPherson confirms he died of his injuries on Nov. 14.

In a statement shared with CHCH News, ministry officials say an investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing.
