A 41-year-old Stoney Creek man is facing charges after a flatbed tractor-trailer overturned on the QEW Toronto-bound off-ramp at Nikola Tesla Boulevard.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the single transport truck crash at around 9:15 p.m. on Monday.

Upon arrival, officers located a flatbed tractor-trailer that had rolled onto its side. The trailer’s load, consisting of one steel coil, became dislodged and came to rest in the middle of the off-ramp.

Investigators say the load shifted while the vehicle was negotiating the ramp, causing the tractor-trailer to roll over.

Detectives say during the crash, the truck struck the concrete barrier on the right side of the ramp. This created a large hole in the barrier and caused concrete debris to fall onto Van Wagners Beach Road.

Officers say the QEW Toronto-bound off-ramp to Nikola Tesla Boulevard remained closed until around 4:40 a.m. for clean-up efforts. Police also closed Van Wagners Beach Road to allow for debris clean-up operations.

Police say there were no injuries but the Stoney Creek driver and the company have both been charged with insecure load and drive with major defect.
