Norfolk County OPP charge 1 person in auto theft investigation

Ontario Provincial Police in Norfolk County have charged one person in an auto theft investigation.

Officers investigated a theft of a pick-up truck shortly before 6:30 on Tuesday.

They say the suspect lost control of the vehicle, fell in a ditch and fled the scene on foot.

The next morning shortly before 6:30 a.m. officers investigated another traffic complaint involving a vehicle.

They determined that this vehicle matched the description of a vehicle that was previously reported stolen.

Officers found the vehicle in a parking lot on James Street. They say the driver tried to avoid arrest, damaging three police vehicles in the process.

Officers arrested the driver and charged them with theft of a motor vehicle, failure to remain after an accident, impaired driving with alcohol and drugs, stunt driving, driving without licence plates and many others.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
