Niagara police have charged a man in connection to an animal cruelty incident in Niagara Falls.

On Saturday, officers were contacted by Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) about an animal cruelty incident.

Detectives learned that in late September, someone rescued a severely starved and tied-up cat from a motel near Lundy’s Lane and Montrose Road in Niagara Falls.

Investigators say the cat had been transferred to an animal hospital but had to be euthanized due to its condition. That animal hospital contacted PAWS who conducted the initial investigation.

On Monday, police secured a search warrant to enter the motel, where they found materials used to tie up the cat.
