Hamilton police have arrested a 28-year-old Hamilton man after he fled from police on a stolen motorcycle.

On Thursday, June 23, shortly after 6:00 p.m., an officer driving a marked police cruiser saw a blue Yamaha motorcycle without plates in the area of Stone Church Road East and Upper Ottawa Street.

Police say the driver left the roadway and started driving in the north shoulder bicycle lane on Stone Church Road while there was heavy traffic.

The officer attempted to stop him, however the driver accelerated, ricocheting off the curb and the police cruiser. Police say the motorcycle then dropped, the driver rolled and fled on foot into traffic. While on the roadway the driver jumped onto the rear bumper of a moving vehicle and held on for around 200 meters.

Calvin McConnell, 28, was then arrested and charged with multiple offences including dangerous operation, flight from police and possession over $5,000, among others.
