Canadian teens hit record lows in international academic study

Canadian teenagers scored the lowest ever in math, reading and science on tests that assess 15 year olds from 91 different countries.

The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) reports that although scores are on the decline for Canadian teenagers, they still ranked high overall in all three subjects.

This study is led by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and tested over 24,000 students last year in Canada.

It found that Canadian teenagers scored higher than the organization’s average in math, reading and science. But results were significantly lower than a decade ago.

Students in China, Singapore and Macao ranked the highest.
