Hamilton man charged with 2nd-degree murder in stabbing death of 21-year-old

Hamilton police have charged a 26-year-old local resident with second-degree murder in connection with Sunday’s Main Street homicide.

On Sunday at 2:27 a.m., officers received a call from a taxi driver about a stabbing in the area of Main Street West and Frid Street.

Police responded and located a male victim suffering from stab wounds. They identified the victim as 21-year-old Zenin Roussel from Hamilton.

Roussel was transported to hospital where he died as a result of those injuries.

“Violence is not acceptable. I shouldn’t be standing here today speaking about Zenin and his death,” says Acting Det. Staff Sgt. Lisa Chambers.

“Now we have his mother grieving, his entire family grieving and his mother now has to explain to his baby sister why he isn’t coming home. It was a senseless tragedy.”

On Tuesday, Kyle Dumont-McArthur was arrested without incident.

On Wednesday morning, Dumont-McArthur made his first court appearance and has been charged with second-degree murder.

Investigators say Zenin and the suspects were at King Street Billiards before the incident.

Detectives say after the establishment closed, a verbal altercation took place outside on King Street West.

Officers have not determined what led to the altercation.

Police say after the altercation, the suspect and victim left the premises separately. About 10 minutes later, they encountered one another near Main Street West and Frid Street, where the victim was stabbed.

In addition to the suspect, four other people witnessed the incident. All four have been identified and interviewed by police.
