Firefighter treated for heat stress at Lincoln garden centre blaze

Train traffic was temporarily suspended Monday evening after a massive fire broke out at a Lincoln garden centre and resulted in one firefighter being treated for heat stress.

Fire crews responded to a blaze involving several large mulch piles and a mulch shredding machine at the back of Ridgeview Garden Centre at around 4:30 p.m.

About 40 firefighters attended and were on scene until around 11 p.m.

They say the blaze spread north to the grass along the CN Rail Line, making it necessary to temporarily stop train traffic to allow crews to safely extinguish the fire.

Firefighters say the blaze is not considered suspicious and the suspected cause is a mechanical failure in the mulch shredding machine.

Crews say the damage estimate is still being determined.
