Niagara police are investigating after someone made a fake 911 call about a threat to the public at a St. Catharines mall.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police say the caller indicated there was an incident unfolding involving firearms at the Pen Centre on Glendale Ave. The caller said there was “imminent danger to the public.”
Officers arrived on scene and quickly discovered there was no threat and the information was false.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who they say was caught on camera using a specific payphone at the time the 911 call was made.
He is described as roughly 20 to 30 years old, between five-foot-seven and six-foot-two, with brown hair and an unshaven face.
The man was wearing an orange zip-up hooded sweatshirt with white strings, a white t-shirt with gold lettering, light blue jeans and white or grey running shoes.
Anyone who can help identify the man is asked to contact Cst. Casey Tennant at 905-688-4111, badge 8391.
