Mother and daughter among four arrested for drug trafficking in Niagara Falls

Four Niagara Falls residents – including a mother and daughter – have been arrested and charged in a drug trafficking investigation.

Niagara police 2 District detectives and its Street Crime Unit started the probe earlier this month and issued a search warrant on May 18 for a residence in the area of Thorold Stone Road and Cardinal Drive.

The Opioid Enforcement & Education Unit, the Emergency Task Unit, Marine Unit, K9 Unit and uniform officers were involved in the search that led to the discovery of over $25,000 in cocaine, crystal meth and hydromorphone, a .22 calibre pump action air pistol and nearly $500 in Canadian currency.

Desanka Mrkalj, 72, her daughter, Dragica Mrkalj, 39, and Darrell Kennedy, 66, were arrested on property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of cocaine, crystal meth and hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking.

Jason Jursza, 43, was arrested on property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

All four accused were released with future court dates.
