13-year-old arrested for false bomb threat at Hamilton elementary school

Police say they’ve arrested a 13-year-old from Hamilton for a bomb threat at Highview Elementary School in January.

Officers say they were called at around 12 p.m. for a reported bomb threat that school staff received on Jan. 20.

Officials at the school evacuated about 500 students and staff to a nearby high school while police conducted a thorough search of the school.

Detectives say no explosive devices or suspicious objects were found and the students were permitted to return.

Following an investigation, police charged a 13-year-old with public mischief and uttering threats to cause bodily harm.
