Metrolinx says a “rule violation” caused last week’s roughly three-hour delay that left passengers trapped on a train near the Hamilton GO Centre, and an investigation has been launched.
On April 22, passengers found themselves stuck inside of a GO train travelling along the Lakeshore West line between 5 and 8 p.m.
The Transit Safety Board has opened an investigation into the incident saying it is “collecting and reviewing the data and assessing the occurrence to determine whether a full investigation will be launched.”
A passenger CHCH News spoke to says the experience was traumatizing for her children.
“There was announcements because people were smoking, apparently, on some of the cars. It was a mess. And my one daughter, she really overheated and we got worried. And I had to go seek help because she looked like she was going to pass out. And this was getting close to between the two and the three-hour mark, because we were on there for almost three hours,” said Christine Adams, passenger on the train.
TSB says it is investigating this incident as it happened on federally-regulated tracks that are owned by CPKC.
“We can confirm that a group of passengers did force a door and exit the train,” says Metrolinx Media Relations in a statement.
The transit company advises passengers that while it understands the frustration customers experience with train delays, exiting the train anywhere but a station puts passengers and others at risk.
Metrolinx apologizes for the impact the event had on customers and thanks them for their patience.
