WestJet cuts flights, introduces temporary surcharge as jet fuel costs rise

WestJet is introducing a temporary $60 surcharge on certain bookings and reducing some flights due to rising fuel costs.

The Calgary-based airline says the surcharge will apply to bookings made with companion vouchers after Wednesday.

The major Canadian airline also said it has consolidated several flights to deal with skyrocketing fuel costs while the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran continues.

Flight frequencies will drop slightly in April and May.

WestJet says most affected passengers have already been offered alternative travel options.

Experts say soaring fuel prices tied to the war in Iran are forcing airlines to adjust operations and pass on costs to customers.
