Here’s what’s open and closed for Christmas and Boxing Day in Hamilton and surrounding area

Christmas and Boxing Day are right around the corner. Here’s what you need to know about what’s open and closed.

All government offices, banks, LCBO and Beer Stores, and Canada Post offices will be closed Christmas and Boxing Day. 

All City of Hamilton administrative offices and services will be closed from Dec. 25 – Jan. 2. This includes housing services, animal services, Hamilton Civic Museums, and all Hamilton Public Libraries 

Most shopping malls, pharmacies, grocery stores, and small businesses will be closed as well – but this may vary. Check individual store websites for holiday operating hours. 

Public Transit 

Hamilton city buses will run on a special schedule Dec. 25, with the final trips on Christmas leaving downtown at 9 p.m. 

On Boxing Day, Routes 1, 2, 16, 21, 25, 26, 41 and 43 will run on a Sunday schedule. 

All DARTS subscription trips will be cancelled for Dec. 25 and 26, with the exception of dialysis trips. 

Niagara Region transit won’t run on Christmas. Service will resume on Boxing Day in Niagara Falls and St. Catharines on a holiday schedule. 

Oakville transit will operate on a Sunday schedule for both Christmas Day and Boxing Day. 

Burlington transit will run on a holiday schedule on Christmas Day and a Sunday schedule on Boxing Day. 

GO transit will operate on a Sunday schedule both days.

Garbage

No waste will be collected on Dec. 25 in Hamilton, Halton, and Niagara.

Garbage and recycling will be collected a day later for the affected routes.
