Peel police say a mother and her child have been found in good health after evidence of childbirth was found at a Mississauga park.

Police issued a plea for help in locating the pair on Monday after blood, forceps and other evidence consistent with childbirth were found at Sugar Maple Woods Park.

A 27-year-old woman contacted police on Tuesday and said she had given birth to the child at home a year ago.

The woman told police she kept part of the afterbirth for holistic purposes and returned it to nature on Monday.
