Hamilton’s Festival of Friends draws thousands to Gage Park

It’s day two of the Festival of Friends at Gage Park in Hamilton – close to 50 years in the making and still going strong
On the main stage Saturday night the big draw will be Sister Sledge. But there’s also vendors, food, games with prizes and rides – a little something for everyone.
But what brings in the crowds is the music. There are three stages throughout the day with musical lineups for the kids and the kids at heart.
Some of the people at the event Saturday said they make this festival a family tradition.
“They don’t always come back every year with the same rides, so there’s always something different and new. So that would be another reason why I’d come back. The food is great,” said one mother.
“I like that they’ve got all the stuff set up for the kids here. Plus, I love the ice cream here. That’s the awesome part,” said Diana, an attendee at the festival.
Local vendors CHCH News spoke to said they love coming back each year to connect with the community and be a part of the atmosphere.
“I have a strong connection with Hamilton and the people here who have supported my artwork for over ten years now, which is exciting. It’s nice to have a festival that’s free. And the music is great,” said Jenna Gregory, the owner of Jenna’s Doodles.
With over 135 vendors to choose from this weekend, it’s evidence this festival is growing and the support is there.
“I love seeing returning vendors, some friends. It’s a big community. Everybody comes together, there’s lots of food, tons of options you can eat,” said Ibrahim Maina, owner of The Nut.co Design.
The festival is expected to see 200,000 visitors over the three days.
