Search continues in Flamborough for missing Dundas man

Hamilton police are using new methods as they continue searching Flamborough for 62-year-old John Edwards of Dundas.

Edwards was last seen on June 11 when surveillance footage from an Esso gas station on Millgrove Side Road near Cumminsville Drive caught him walking southbound.

The search extending into rural Flamborough began yesterday. Ground teams searched the area surrounding Millgrove United Church, but no new evidence was found.

Authorities say the terrain of the search area is difficult as there are large properties, dense brush and marshy areas that are hard to navigate on foot without specialized equipment.

The police command post at Millgrove United Church will continue to operate to support the search.

Const. Trevor McKenna of the Hamilton Police Service says new search efforts are now underway.

“Today we plan to deploy drones in the area for aerial coverage. We’re going to have our mounted unit out, as well as our Public Order Unit searching properties in the area,” said McKenna.

Detectives are actively investigating two recent community tips reporting someone resembling Edwards walking in the Hamilton area of Upper Paradise Road, Mohawk Road West and Upper Horning Road.

Investigators are reviewing and following up with these sightings.

As of today, the search efforts have included:

  • Immediate deployment of search teams in Dundas and Flamborough (two command posts)
  • Public Order Unit and ground search and rescue personnel
  • FLIR thermal imaging and aerial support
  • Patrols by foot, bike, and mounted officers, canine, special constables, cadets and now the Marine Unit
  • Review of surveillance footage and video canvassing
  • Investigation of numerous tips, including an unconfirmed sighting in Milton

Officers say Edwards is believed to be without a phone, ID or money which has made his movements hard to track.

The recent extreme heat and his cognitive vulnerabilities add to the concerns for his safety.

At this time there is no indication of foul play, but the situation remains urgent.

Anyone with information regarding Edwards’ whereabouts is asked to contact police at 905-546-3886 or the Missing Person Unit at 905-540-8549.
