Niagara pet shelter reports over 900 animals abandoned so far in 2025

Over 900 animals have been either surrendered or abandoned this year alone to the Humane Society of Greater Niagara.

They recently added to this list when three cats were found abandoned outside a business on Hiscott street in St Catharines, some in a plastic tote with no ventilation.

As CHCH’s Danielle de Graauw reports, there’s cause for concern with the numbers being so high this early.
