Canadian beaten to death in Grenada

A Canadian man was reportedly beaten to death by police on the Caribbean island of Grenada.

Local news reports say 39 year-old Oscar Bartholomew mistook a plainclothes female police officer for a friend and hugged her.

He was then taken into custody and media reports say he was beaten by officers.

Police have so far declined to comment and a statement from Canada’s high commission is expected shortly.

Grenada’s Prime Minister is also calling for an investigation.
