Oakville tanning bed restrictions

In Oakville, anyone under 18 can’t use tanning beds now.

The town has become the first municipality in Ontario to ban tanning beds for teens.

Supporters call it a victory in the fight against skin cancer, but opponents criticize councilors for overstepping their authority.

Ultraviolet rays from tanning beds can cause skin damage and contribute to melanoma, the most common and deadliest form of cancer for people ages 15-29.
