A 79-year-old man from New York died after a fatal car crash in Niagara-on-the-Lake last night.

The collision occurred on the Niagara River Parkway near the Sir Adam Beck Hydroelectric Power Station.

The initial police investigation has revealed the man lost control of his 2004 Mazda and crossed over into the on-coming southbound lane. The car then crashed into a van being driven by a man from Virginia.

The collision caused the Mazda to go airborne and roll over, landing on its roof. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, but the driver of the van and its seven other passengers were treated with minor injuries.
