Hudak says jobs top priority

Less than a month of campaigning left before the provincial election and all three leaders are touting promises of job creation. But they disagree on how to get there. While PC Leader Tim Hudak and NDP Leader Andrea Horwath focused on the party line today — Premier Kathleen Wynne was forced to field questions about recent missteps by Liberal candidates.

Tim Hudak: “I’ve made jobs the central issue of my campaign.”

Tim Hudak’s million jobs message was front and centre at his appearance in Ottawa. Avoiding specifics, the Progressive Conservative leader continued to push his jobs platform, taking another stab at Kathleen Wynne’s predecessor: “On issue after issue, we and the PC party will choose jobs. While the McGuinty Liberals always seem to decide that they see something else.”

In Scarborough, Andrea Horwath criticized both Hudak’s and Wynne’s plans for job creation saying neither party’s methods will work: “We want to actually reward the companies that are creating jobs and reward the companies that are investing in Ontario that way we are not giving away blank cheque. We are saying, you hire people that’s when you get the tax break.”

Wynne didn’t have much time to defend herself while campaigning in Toronto. Her message was overwhelmed by apologies. She was on damage control after a second Liberal candidate was caught posting sexist content on social media: “I’ve been very clear. In these situations, in the two situations that I’m aware of that the comments were inappropriate and the correct actions been taken.”

Niagara-West Glanbrook candidate David Mossey, posted a picture comparing the nearly bare backsides of two women.

Earlier this week, Ottawa candidate, Jack Uppal, was called out for a January post suggesting men are better problem solvers than women.

Just this afternoon a new allegation of sexism by a Liberal candidate was raised by the NDP. They say London West candidate, Nick Steinburg sent a tweet February 10th that read: “Oh that’s just my two-days-after-leg-day swagger. You know how we do. Cashin’ cheques. mackin’ on ladies. and havin’ trouble with stairs”

The Progressive Conservatives have questioned whether Wynne was thorough enough when vetting her party’s candidates. They are all still running in their respective ridings.
