Two people from Niagara Falls have been charged for breaking the province’s COVID-19 regulations.

Niagara Regional Police officers were called to a hotel in the area of Fallsview Blvd. and Murray St. on Friday.

When officers arrived, they discovered a gathering of over 30 people in one of the rooms. They say many of those in attendance were not wearing face coverings.

Police say their investigation revealed a similar incident occurred on Dec. 5, with over 20 young adults at a gathering.

Niagara Region is currently under the orange “restrict” zone of the province’s colour-coded COVID-19 restrictions.

Those restrictions include a maximum of 10 people at indoor events and social gatherings and 25 people at outdoor ones.

Police say two people, a 21-year-old man and 18-year-old woman, are facing charges under the Reopening Ontario Act along. Each is also facing a fine of $880.
