U.S. automakers receive temporary tariff exemption from Trump

The United States’ top trading partners continue to deal with the fallout from President Donald Trump’s decision to move forward with a series of damaging tariffs.
Canada promptly rolled out a series of countermeasures in response, which garnered swift criticism from Trump.
The two leaders spoke on the phone Wednesday, and the White House has since announced that Trump will grant a one-month exemption for U.S. carmakers from tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico.
The month-long exemption will apply to auto giants Stellantis, Ford, and General Motors but there has been no indication that Trump is willing to reverse course on the other tariffs.
