South Korean officials plan to conduct safety inspections of all Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by the country’s airlines as they work to determine the cause of a weekend plane crash that killed 179 people.

Questions continue to circulate about the incidents leading up to the tragic crash landing of Jeju Air Flight 2216, in which 179 people lost their lives after the Boeing 737’s landing gear failed to deploy, causing the plane to collide with a concrete barrier.

This marks the deadliest aviation disaster of 2024 and the most catastrophic incident involving this particular Boeing model.

However, it is not the only aviation incident from the weekend. In Norway, another Boeing aircraft narrowly avoided disaster when it skidded off the runway during landing.
