VIDEO: Prime Minister Mark Carney is trying to reduce Canada’s reliance on U.S. tech giants by making artificial intelligence a central part of the country’s economic future. Thursday the federal government released the much-anticipated national AI strategy called “AI for all,” announcing more than two billion dollars in spending for programs to increase AI literacy and scale up it’s use across the country by businesses and government. The framework introduced Thursday suggests Canada wants to become a global leader in AI by helping people use it widely and safely. The report boasts the creation of hundreds of thousands of jobs to do that but opposition parties have been quick to criticize the acceleration in AI adoption by businesses, saying it shows no regard for the consequences for workers.
