Almost a year after it was supposed to be ready, the city of Hamilton finally has the keys to Tim Hortons Field.

The initial date for full completion of Tim Hortons Field was June 30th 2014 – eleven months ago. But it was just yesterday that the government agency overseeing construction of the new Pan Am stadium, Infrastructure Ontario, finally handed it over.

To be given ownership, the site had to be deemed substantially complete. That means 98 per cent of the work had to be done and the building had be able to be used for the purpose for which it was intended.

Crews are now installing cables and setting up furniture. Staff will be moving in within the week. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are also expected to be moving their gear in by the end of the weekend.

A public open house is set for later this month.
