Food label changes in Canada

Changes designed to better protect people with allergies will take effect across Canada Saturday.

New federal food labelling regulations will require manufacturers to clearly identify ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction.

Health Canada lists 10 “priority” food allergens in the regulations, including peanuts, eggs, milk, tree nuts, and seafood.

Some companies have already been identifying “plain language” ingredients, but now it will be mandatory.
