Flu shots and pregnancy

A new study suggests pregnant women who got a flu shot during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic were more likely to have healthier babies than women who didn’t get a shot.

The study also finds that women vaccinated against H1N1 were less likely to give birth to a very pre-term baby or to lose their baby shortly after birth.

They were also less likely to give birth to a baby who was born small for its gestational age.

The study is based on records of nearly 56,000 women who gave birth to a single child in Ontario between November 2009 and the following April.
