Diabetes drug shows cancer risk

A Canadian study suggests a popular diabetes drug could increase the risk of developing bladder cancer.

Researchers in Montreal have found type two diabetes patients taking the drug pioglitazone, sold under the brand name “Actos”, have an 83% higher risk.

The risk increased the longer patients took the drug, or with higher doses.

Researchers say the overall risk for developing the disease is still low, and suggest patients talk to their doctor.
