Chemotherapy and pregnancy

A study suggests women should be able to safely treat their breast cancer during pregnancy without harming their baby.

A study of 400 pregnant women with early-stage breast cancer found no major risks to the fetus among those who received chemotherapy.

While their children were more likely to be born premature, and have a lower birth weight, they did not have an increased risk for birth defects or other complications.

Experts say more studies are needed on the long-term health of children exposed to chemotherapy in the womb.
