A man remains in hospital with serious injuries after an unprovoked stabbing in Waterdown Monday night, Hamilton police say.

Officers were called to the area of Main St. N and John St. E around 9:30 p.m.

The victim, a 47-year-old man, was walking with his spouse when he was approached by a man who “stabbed him multiple times without provocation,” said a police news release.

The spouse was knocked to the ground during the attack.

The victim was taken to hospital. His injuries are said to be serious, but non-life threatening.

The attacker was last seen fleeing the area eastbound on John St. E towards Mill St. N.

He is described as about 30 years old, 5’4″ with a thin build. He was said to be wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

Officers are expected to be in the area Tuesday to canvass for witnesses and get surveillance video.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (905) 546-8967.
