Canada’s women’s wheelchair basketball team is at Brock University, going through its final preparations ahead of the Parapan Am games.

Canada won the worlds in 2014 and is currently ranked number one in the world. These women are poised to win another basketball gold following the lead of the women’s team at the Pan Am games.

Here’s what some of the team told CHCH News.

Katie Harnock: “We were all on Twitter, and watching the game, the live feeds that they had, and yeah of course everybody, when they watch Canadian athletes have such amazing success, especially on home soil too and against a pretty significant rival of ours, it gets everybody a little bit pumped up.”

Darda Sales: “Our confidence is definitely high coming in to here. This is our qualifier for Rio so we want to put forward a really good performance, and go in again showing the world what we can do and letting them know that they should be on notice.”

Tracy Ferguson: “We had a couple of years there where we had fallen off and we were ranked a little bit lower, and we really stepped it up last year, brought our game back up and put ourselves back on top of the podium, and it’s where we want to stay, so I’d be lying if we weren’t looking to finish on top in the Parapan Ams.”

Coach Bill Johnson: “I think if we can maintain our full court defensive pressure, which we’ve been doing some experimenting with, and we’re coming a long way with it, I think we’ll see a lot of success.”

The Parapan Am games run from August 7th to 14th.
