It was a busy week in the movie trailer world, with a number of new teasers and longer previews hitting the internet. We get a look at some of this year’s action sequels, some classic children adaptations getting a reboot, and a couple of interesting festival films that are getting wide releases in the coming months.

Transformers: Age of Extinction

We got a quick tease of the fourth instalment of the Transformers franchise during last month’s Super Bowl, and now they have released a longer trailer that details a bit more of the story. It seems like the Autobots have fallen out of favour with the US government, until another threat rears its head and they get called back into action.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

We’re a month away from the release of this Captain America sequel, the first of two Marvel releases slated for 2014. But that doesn’t mean we’re not going to see any new footage between now and then. Marvel has given us 3 minutes of Cap and the Black Widow infiltrating a ship taken over by the French mercenary Batroc, played by UFC fighter Georges St-Pierre.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

300: Rise of an Empire is out this weekend, and now another one of Frank Miller’s graphic novels is set for release. A Dame to Kill For is based on the second book in Miller’s Sin City series, and is the sequel to 2005’s Sin City. Robert Rodriguez returns to direct and brings along with him cast members Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis. A bunch of new stars are along for the ride too, including Eva Green, Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, and Lady Gaga.

Annie

The classic musical is getting a contemporary adaptation this Christmas, with Oscar nominated actress Quvenzhané Wallis stepping into the title role. Will Smith and Jay-Z are producing the revival (appropriate since Jay-Z already sampled one of the musical’s famous songs) which co-stars Cameron Diaz as the owner of the orphanage Annie lives in and Jamie Foxx in the Daddy Warbucks role, now named Will Stacks.

Paddington

In development since 2007, this adaptation of the children’s book series is on track to be released November 28 with Colin Firth voicing the bear with the floppy red hat. The film is being produced by David Heyman, who was the architect behind every Harry Potter movie and also won an Oscar for his work on Gravity.

The Boxtrolls

Stop motion animation is always impressive to see on screen, and The Boxtrolls is shaping up to be another great example of the medium. Based on the novel Here Be Monsters!, the film features the voices of Game of Thrones’ Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Ben Kingsley, Elle Fanning, Toni Collette, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Tracy Morgan.

Frank

Frank is a British-Irish production that premiered at Sundance this past January. The film stars Michael Fassbender, but you won’t recognize him in the title role since he is never on screen without wearing a giant, paper-mâché head. The story follows Jon, a musician who joins Frank’s to record a new album. Eventually the band plays at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. There was a lot of positive buzz about the film at the festival, so this might be one to see when it comes out later this year.

Locke

Tom Hardy, best known for his roles in the Christopher Nolan films Inception and The Dark Night Rises, is the only on-screen character in this psychological thriller. Hardy plays Ivan Locke, a construction manager making his way from Birmingham to London. The entirety of the film is set in his car, where he deals with his personal problems through calls on his cell phone. It’s hard to believe such a premise could be suspenseful, but reviews from its showing at the Venice Film Festival late last year have said it is quite a ride. Look for Locke in theatres April 25.
