A woman from Waterdown is facing charges after investigations linked to the horse industry in Milton led to her arrest Friday.

Halton police say the woman used the alias “Hailey Wood” and arranged to meet with someone earlier this month, allegedly under fictitious circumstances.

Investigators say the suspect contacted schools associated with the victim, while posing as the victim, in an attempt to obtain confidential information.

Detectives say the actual victim became suspicious and contacted them, which led to officers identifying and arresting the accused.

The accused and the victim are not known to one another and had never previously met.

Police charged 30-year-old Karly Tripp with one offence of criminal harassment, and one for failing to comply with a probation order.

Officers say no one was injured as a result of the incident, and there were no financial losses suffered by the victim or any victims.

Halton police also charged Tripp last month with offences including theft over $5,000, fraudulently taking cattle, and injuring or endangering other animals.

The earlier charges were in relation to the alleged theft of a horse in Milton.

Investigators believe Tripp may be involved in similar occurrences related to the equine industry in the Greater Toronto Area, and additional victims under possible different aliases.

Anyone with information or believes they may have been targeted are encouraged to contact police at 905-825-4777 ext. 2416.
