Niagara police are looking for the public’s help in naming the newest member of their K9 team.
Police say the pup is an 11-month-old English Pointer. He weighs 51 lbs and the police service says he has a “nose meant for tracking.”
He will join the Niagara Regional Police Service Canine Unit as a search and rescue dog to help find vulnerable and missing persons as well as to assist with ground searches for evidence.
Residents who would like to enter the contest can submit their name suggestions to niagarapolice@niagarapolice.ca.
Submissions will be accepted until 12 p.m. on March 2.
The Niagara police canine team has been operating since 1987.
The unit is comprised of seven teams including six police service dogs that are certified for general-purpose patrol, four dogs that are cross-trained in narcotics detection and two that are cross-trained for explosive detection.
