Veronica Mars

Veronica Mars is a sequel/revival of the detective television series that ran from 2004-07. The film stars Kristen Bell in the title role, now living in New York City and about to be made an associate at a prestigious law firm. One day she receives a call from her old boyfriend and learns he has become a suspect in a murder investigation. Mars returns to her childhood home to help him find a lawyer, but discovers there is more to the case than meets the eye.

When Veronica Mars hits theatres it will become the first studio release financed entirely through a crowdsourcing project. Show creator/director Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell set up a Kickstarter campaign after Warner Bros. Pictures decided not to fund the big screen adaptation. The project quickly broke a number of the site’s records, becoming the fastest to break the $1-million and $2-million marks and eventually topped out at $5.7-million; the highest grossing film project in the site’s history. It will be interesting to see if fans are pleased with the final product they helped create.
