Uncleared ice causing pedestrians to lose ground

Niagara EMS has responded to dozens of calls in the past couple of days for people slipping and falling on the ice.

There have been 16 fall-related injuries in the past 24 hours. That’s higher than usual.

Because of the number of elderly residents, falls are the leading cause of injuries in Niagara region.

Most muncipalities require homeowners to shovel their sidewalk within 24 hours of a snowfall. If it isn’t done, the city will do it for them for a fee.
