U.S. extends non-essential border travel restrictions

The United States is keeping its borders closed to non-essential travel from Canada until Sept. 21.
The Department of Homeland Security tweeted about the travel extensions this morning. They cited the Delta variant as a deciding factor.
Restrictions were originally set to expire Aug. 21.
To minimize the spread of #COVID19, including the Delta variant, the United States is extending restrictions on non-essential travel at our land and ferry crossings with Canada and Mexico through September 21, while continuing to ensure the flow of essential trade and travel.

DHS says travel for essential purposes will continue.
The restriction on non-essential travel has been in place since March 21.
Canada opened its border to non-essential travellers from the U.S. with full vaccination status.
