SIU investigates east Hamilton crash after police attempt to stop vehicle

Ontario’s top police watchdog is investigating a collision that occurred after Hamilton police attempted to stop a vehicle in the city’s east end Friday morning.

Two people were taken to the hospital with injuries following a two-vehicle crash in the city’s east end.

Hamilton police attempted to stop a black Dodge Challenger around 6:24 a.m. at the intersection of King Street East and Balsam Avenue North.

Shortly after, that vehicle and a silver Ford Escape were involved in a two-vehicle collision. Two individuals were transported to hospital with injuries.

Officers tell CHCH News that they are not in a position to comment on the extent of those injuries at this time.

Detectives say as the investigation is in its early stages, they are unable to comment on the circumstances leading up to the crash or its cause.

King Street East remains closed between Connaught Avenue North and Leinster Avenue South as the investigation continues.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
