Two people rescued from house fire in Hamilton’s east end

Two people are in critical condition after being rescued from a house fire in Hamilton’s east end early Wednesday morning.

At approximately 2 a.m., first responders were dispatched to a blaze at 245 Huxley Ave. South, between Lawrence Road and King Street East.

The Hamilton Fire Department reported visible smoke and flames coming from the home.

Crews found the fire in a bedroom on the first floor and were able to quickly contain it.

Firefighters found two people in the home and paramedics brought them to hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe revealed in a statement that the suspected cause of the fire is electrical in nature.

Damage is estimated to be around $200,000, and no working smoke alarms were found in the home.

This is the third reported fire in Hamilton on Wednesday.
