‘Callous and inhumane’ Hamilton braces for Trump’s steel tariffs

U.S. President Donald Trump followed through with 25 per cent tariffs on steel and aluminum this morning.
These latest tariffs will be stacked on top of other duties coming into effect on April 2.
Industries on both sides of the border are expecting to feel the hit, as steel industries in the U.S. and Canada are heavily integrated.
Experts say Canada is the largest supplier of steel to the U.S. and the largest source of aluminum.
Around 24,000 jobs in Hamilton are directly employed in manufacturing – many of which are related to the steel industry.
Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath says that what’s happening with tariffs is “callous and inhumane” and needs to stop.
