Tensions are rising across the Atlantic, as U.S. President Donald Trump’s renewed push to bring Greenland under U.S. control has drawn pushback from Denmark, and it’s European allies.

The White House says taking over the Arctic territory is a matter of national security.

Trump’s desire to control Greenland is nothing new, he spoke about owning the island back in his first presidential term.

The rhetoric around it has intensified in recent weeks, with one of Trump’s top aides refusing to rule out the use of military force in an interview with CNN.

While much of Greenland’s population favours independence from Demark, opinion polls done in the wake of Trump’s threats show overwhelming opposition to becoming part of the U.S.
