Trudeau says he is carefully watching U.S. election results

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he is carefully watching the political drama unfolding in the United States.

Trudeau spoke briefly to reporters as he arrived on Parliament Hill Wednesday morning, continuing to say little on the presidential election until it is decided.

The prime minister says the government is following process and will continue to do so throughout the day and in the coming days.

Meanwhile, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh said on Tuesday that there is a “moral imperative” to speak out about Donald Trump’s actions during his presidency.

The presidential race remains too close to call, with millions of votes still be counted in battleground states.

Early Wednesday morning, former vice-president Joe Biden preached patience and said everyone must wait for the ballots to be counted.

Not long after that, President Donald Trump essentially declared himself the winner and said he would take his fight to the U.S. Supreme Court.
