Tim Hortons pledges to hire 10,000 ‘local team members’ nationally

Tim Hortons says it plans to hire 10,000 people across the country, placing a priority on “local team members.”

The restaurant chain has launched a national campaign on TV and online, inviting people to apply this summer.

Franchise owners held 400 local hiring events in March and April. Similar events are set to continue throughout the year, as the brand adds 80 new restaurants, including one in Hamilton.

“This is part of the brand’s strong, ongoing commitment to hire locally, whenever possible, in every community we serve,” the restaurant chain said in a release posted Monday.

Tim Hortons says 45 per cent of its workers are between the ages of 15 and 24, and only 4,000 of its 110,000 workers were hired through the temporary foreign worker (TFW) program.

The company says the number of temporary foreign workers it employs has declined steadily since 2024.

Tim Hortons says it experienced “acute labour shortages,” during and after the COVID-19 pandemic and asked the government to increase access to workers through the TFW program to address the issue.

In 2026, the restaurant chain says as a response to the national youth unemployment rate, it is no longer lobbying for expanded use of the program.
