Problems continue at Tim Hortons field in Hamilton. The stadium is expected to use a backup generator system for the next two Ticat games costing a total of $34 000. This comes as a safety-check report is scheduled to be released to city staff on Friday citing all of the deficiencies inside the new $145 million stadium. The report of safety recommendations will be for staff eyes only and that’s because the city is in a lawsuit with the stadium builder and Infrastructure Ontario to negotiate who is responsible for all of the fixes. In the meantime, the city is looking into a damaged transformer.

Last Wednesday staff were walking by the electrical room at Tim Hortons Field when they discovered the blown transformer. Rome D’Angelo, the facility manager says there are two transformers inside the stadium. The staff took immediate steps to shut the one down, the other continues to run but it takes both of them to power up Tim Hortons field for game day.

“We’re are going to look to Infrastructure Ontario and Ontario Sports Solution for reimbursement of these costs.”

The emergency generators are wired into the building and plugged into the blown transformer to keep the lights on for the Ticats. Today, Siemens, the transformer manufacturer is on site conducting an 8 hour inspection of both systems to determine if the failure was caused by a product defect or a faulty installation.
